If Emily weren't immunocompromised, a whole world of public indoor activities would be an option for us... but since pesky little bugs hang out on chubby little kid fingers that always seem to find their way to the mouth and maybe even the nose, we just can't take part in those fun activities until Emily is free and clear of leukemia. So...are there any suggestions out there? I am looking forward to hearing from you...and Ethan can't wait to hear what fun things you do with your kiddos when you are stuck inside!
Until then...we'll continue to occupy our days with mischief, getting into things we shouldn't..
And a little couch wrestling while watching entirely too much TV!
Love,

Cabin fever, plus, huh? It's not nearly the same things as dealing with Leukemia, but Buddy was born in November and we spent that first winter pretty much housebound. I thought I was going to lose MY mind, nevermind how Munchkin was managing it.
Would it be possible to have a little winter wonderland party at the house, where you could invite select, healthy friends, and give everyone a Purell shower before entering?
Sending happy, healthy, and warm thoughts your way!
Make playdough, or slime...

We always made forts. Move around the couches or bring out the kitchen chairs and grab some big bed sheets! Throw some pillows under there and read or play a game.
One day I remember we gathered all the kids stuffed animals and made a huge pile in the livingroom, then they jumped in them like leaves! So much fun and the pictures have remained some of our favorites over the years! :)
I let my girls fingerpaint in the bathtub. I use crayola washable fingerpaints. I just put little puddles all over the ledge and then they go to town painting the bathtub walls and each other! It sounds really messy, but it's fun and when they are finished you can just wash it all off with water. :)
We live up North, so we get some serious snow. Calling for it on Tuesday actually. I put away some of their Christmas gifts, since they got too many anyway. I'll slowly break them out over the rest of the winter. We got one of those play tents that has a tube they have to crawl through. You could make up an obsticle course with something like that. We do a lot painting: water color, finger paint, color wonder paints, etc. My kids love to cook and bake too. Hope you guys have fun!
We love playdough and there are alot of fun recipes online. One of our favorite playdoughs is Jello playdough because it smells like whichever Jello you use. My five year old would be lost with out WII sports and my 8 year old loves to read and do crafty things. We bake when it is cold and both of my older two help. Ethan could help measure and count out ingredients such as eggs and cups of sugar, he could also help scoop cookies onto sheets or roll out dough. The fort idea sounds awesome as well. We make slime but we do that in the summer because then the mess can go outside but it is alot of fun to make gooey stuff! We make our slime with equal parts of liquid cornstarch and Elmers white glue (you can add food coloring if you wish.) I hope this helps.

Looks like fun to me. We didn't have a whole lot of money growing up so we spent a lot of time building forts inside. Maybe the kiddos would love that :-)
love the couch pix!! it is so hard to stay inside and only so much cartoons and the kiddos even get bored! hope it is sunny warm weather soon!! smiles
bath crayons, finger paints and other fun bath stuff is always a hit here. playdough(fusion is an on messier version which william likes too)painting. making cookies. dressup. valentines projects are easy, cut out lots of heart in different colors and find something fun to do with them....hide them glue them, string them etc...
picnic under the kitchen table with a blanket to hide under(cover the table with the blanket)
good luck it is never fun to stay home.
I wish I had some brilliant ideas, but we are having major cabin fever as well. I'm not a sit still kind of gal, and I'm dying to put my baby girl on a swing. But it has been crazy cold, even for here. So cold that I don't even take Jax out at all!
My boys have been driving me nuts! They need to go outside and run. Spring please hurry!
It has been cold lately here too! Yesterday it snowed all day, and we didn't leave the house once!
What about a fort? That is one of my favorite winter house bound activities when I was little.
I will second, third and fourth the fort idea.. always fun.How about those indoor tents that you can buy that re so fun, as an idea too?I know you probably don't want to here this, but it's been cold in California too.Not as cold as where as there but cold for us.We did alot of tv viewing and snuggling and board game playing.Portable dvd players IN forts might be fun too.Music and dancing and puppet theaters, are totally fun too!
I so get the immunocompromised thing... lived that our first winter of diagnosis too.Just think .. summer will take on whole new meaning!
Well, I am terrible at occupying kids indoors. I am simply not a creative person. For me it is play with each other or watch TV kind of stuff. But for you, you can text me :) I actually sent you a text this morning to check up on Emily. She looks great in the pics so I am assuming all is well. Text if you get a chance as I am curious about her counts. Hang in there, the weather is bound to better soon.
I just have to comment here. We are in Illiois where winters are excuciatingly long. Turn off the TV, there are all kinds of things to do. Forts have already been mentioned and are great. Drape blankets or sheets over the kitchen table and let them have a "picnic" there. If you have an unfinished basement, get out the shaving cream and let them paint the walls with it. Challenge them to draw shapes or letters. Find things in your cupboards, macaroni, cheerios, chocolate chips and draw designs on construction paper with glue and let them decorate with the items. This is great fine motor skill. Let them help you cook or bake. Cold is a great time for teaching them jobs like setting the table, folding towels or wash cloths, etc. Dont' be afraid of the cold, dress them in layers and take them out, nothing wards off illness like the crisp clean outdoor air. Don't buy into the old "they'll catch their death" saying. It's not true. Finally, this one will shock you a bit but it's always been a favorite around here. Sit in a chair with your feet on a coffee table or ottoman with a towel or paper under your feet. Take off your socks and roll up your pant legs. Get out the washable markers and let them draw. The 4 year old can practice writing or tell them you don't want to see any flesh color. It occupies alot of time, you can read or pay bills or whatever, it feels awesome and it washes off very easily. I used to do in home child care and we did this almost daily in cold weather. Sorry for the book length post, but we know all about cold and it's really not that bad. Have fun.
Freeeze Dance! Dance while the music is playing, but you have to freeze when it stops.
She is seriously sooo scrumptious!
