Guess Who's Getting Glasses?

Emily is! My guess is most of you got that one right since kiddo's with Down Syndrome are more likely to have vision issues.  I took Emily to her eye dr. for her 2 year old check-up and mentioned that one of hers eyes seemed to be crossing inward sometimes and he saw it too...of course he got to use some pretty neato tools to see it and I didn't!  So we left with a diagnosis of accomodative esotropia and a prescription for glasses.  The bad news is that I still haven't figured out how I am going to keep the glasses on her, she's two afterall! My guess is they are going to end up in one of Emily's favorite hiding places which now include under our ottoman, the garbage can, or possibly the toilet!  The good news is she may not need them forever, many children outgrow this condition by the time they reach middle school age.

I have to admit I was disappointed that she needs glasses, it's yet another thing that makes her different than most children...however, I have gotten over it and have decided that she is totally going to ROCK IT OUT in her glasses, just like she does with everything else!

Love,

glasses!! welcome to the club!! I got Maddie's at Wal Mart only $50 1 year warranty and that was amazing! they have the flexible arms so she cannot brake them... we decided against a strap because well Maddie would hang herself somehow...guaranteed...it took a day of us putting them on consistently to now she just lets them be unless she is tired or sick...I know you will find some cute ones!! cannot wait to see the pix! smiles

I so thought the same thing about glasses. Our sweetie has braces for her little ankles, a mouth full of metal from too many cavities caused by 3 years in an orphanage. I felt like she had enough - why glasses? Then they tried them on her - and oh my - just precious!!! So I know your sweet Emily will "rock" them for sure!!!

I just knew that when Ella got glasses it would be this HORRIBLE fight, after all the kid really doesn't like to keep shoes and clothes on. BUT...she has had them since last October and has been AWESOME with them, granted she is 4. Girls with glasses do ROCK!!!

I was so sad when Braska got her prescription for glasses at 12 months. I even waited a month to get them because I just couldn't imagine covering her sweet little face with glasses, but we quickly saw so many development bursts because she could see better and we pretty much prefer her WITH them after almost 4 years.

Emily will be a bespectacled superstar!! :o)

There is a company that makes glasses specifically for kiddo's with Down Syndrome... have you heard of it?

She is going to look soooo cute in glasses!

Hey, don't ya know that glasses are cool? My niece wears them even though she doesn't need them! I bet she'll look great, but I wish you good luck at keeping them on. Because I can't imagine doing it with Arina. Besides the fact that the girl has no nose.Hopefully she never needs glasses or we are doomed!

She will rock out those glasses. Yes, I know the feeling of "one more thing." But, I actually love the way my Kristen looks in those glasses. Consistency in getting her to wear them is the biggest key. Now, Kristen asks where her "eyes" are as she calls them. She wants to wear them....so I know they help her! I cannot wait to see what cute ones you pick out.

I was sad too when Rachel had to get glasses. I got used to them and now think she is just as cute with them on. Don't forget to check out the Specs For Us for Emily. Rachel has a pair and they fit her face great! AND they stay up on her nose (what little she has for a nose!). I went to our local eye glass place and got them to work with Specs For Us to get the glasses. The ordered a couple of frames to try on first and then we placed the order for what we wanted.

Emerson started wearing her glasses at age 1. She started out in the metal frames but quickly went to the rubber goggle-looking ones with the strap. She is the cutest thing out there in her pink glasses :) Swims in them too. We prefer the strap. Since she is so near sighted, she was thrilled to have them. Can't want to see your E in her specs.
